In the mid 1970`s Morocco occupied the Spanish enclave of the Western Sahara pushing out the original inhabitants, the Saharaui. Over 250,000 refugees have had to live in camps in southwestern Algeria since then. The terrain is nothing like their original homeland. Fresh water is scarce and alkaline. They live in tents and mud houses. Much of their food supply is donated to them. The Sahara desert yields not but sand and wind. BACK
