After the Spanish civil war the monastery of this small town was used as a military hospital and prison for political dissidents. Hundreds of bodies lie in un-marked graves, sometimes two to three per grave, victims of fascist firing squads during the first years of the Franco dictatorship. A local NGO is excavating the site in an effort to identify the remains and bring light to this long forgotten dark part of history. BACK
