Up the hill and around the bend from one of the most developed parts of the Costa del Sol, lies a small pocket of tranquility. The Axarquia is a small mountainous region in the eastern corner of the province of Malaga.  A few kilometers inland from the high-rise apartments and hotels on the beach awaits a Spain of another age. There is a distinct air of northern Morocco here and the modern inhabitants seem strangely if not justifiably proud of their Moorish roots. BACK
